About Moore, OK
Moore, Oklahoma is a growing suburban city just south of Oklahoma City, in Cleveland County on the plains of central Oklahoma. Its origins date back to the late 1800s when the arrival of the railroad — then called the Southern Kansas Railway — turned a modest water-stop into a budding community. The town was first named “Verbeck,” but soon renamed “Moore,” after a railroad employee, likely Al Moore, who lived in a boxcar there. The settlement was officially incorporated in 1893.
